Hot or Not - week 10/20 (Lyon, Monterrey)

It's rough Monday so it's time for Hot or Not list. This week there are 3 tournaments in Lyon, Monterrey and 125k one in Indian Wells. The last two I have to still look at, but I made some conclusions on Lyon so these are my initial lists for this week:
HOT list: Dodin, Uytvanck, Kasatkina, Mladenovic
NOT list: Garcia, Paquet,

Dodin - she played some good tennis in Moscow another indoor event this year, also her draw looks OK, and she will have home crowd behind her...
Uytvanck - indoor specialist I would say, in decent form, lately was very close to winning with stellar Rybakina (but not only)
Garica - looks weak at least for the last 3-4 months, but the draw opens up for her quite easy so I think she may reach QF even covers some HDP along the way.
Kasatkina - she had a bad year in 2019 but in a few matches this year I see some signs of hope, so maybe one of my favs is coming back. Like most Russians, she is used to playing indoor.

Later on I will add some names referring to Monterrey and Indian Wells (maybe)

edit: Tuesday 15:30
I went through Monterrey draw, check my database😃 plus my personal cache... and here are the additional Monterrey players that draw my attention:
HOT list: Potapova, Watson
NOT list: Stephens, Konta

HOT or NOT - week 8/20 Recap and how to read this recaps?

I write this post a) to recap week 8/20 (Dubai) and b) to exemplify how HoN is to run. Maybe one picture bellow will be worth more than many words I wrote before. On a regular basis, recaps will be posted in HoN posts as week and tournaments end but this post I treat as a kind of instruction on how to read my tables and how to understand the whole idea of Hot or Not lists. In the future when answering queries it will be easier to refer to this post than to explain the same all over again.

For start a reminder who was on the lists in week 8/20:
Hot list: Halep; Mertens; Brady; Mugu; Kontaveit; Kenin; Rybakina; Pliskova
Not list: Svitolina, Sevastova,
Not list, if QF: Strycova, Martic
Basically in the recap table below you will see all matches that picked player played in. Some exceptions are possible, eg. in week 8/20 Strycova and Martic were put on sub-list "not, if QF", so in the table below you won't see their 1-2 round's matches, only from quarter-final stage.
So in the table you can find information such as date, round, players, "side" means just which player I played on in a given order, then "exclusions" and info if the prediction is a win or miss (1 or 0).
In "side" column you may notice a sign "eo", which usually means the two players from hot list are to play each other and this match will be naturally excluded.
Please don't worry about the "exclusions" section marked by yellow frame - this is my own mumbo-jambo and in short it represents different types of collisions with my other models or concepts. I am showing it here to a) be transparent and b) it clarifies a little bit the transitions from the "raw subset" to final picks posted on twitter/blogabet.
So what are the main information for you in this table? I think maybe two - 1) how performed the raw subset and 2) how the posted picks went. What do I understand by "raw subset" - these are all matches that players from the lists are involved in. In week 8/20 there were 15 such matches, remember that matches marked "eo" are not counted. And the most important info concerns the performance of posted picks which you can see marked in the green oval. This is easy and should be clear for everyone - I posted 3 picks on twitter/blogabet coming from week 8/20 schedule, two of them were wins and one miss. You can check it on my twitter: https://twitter.com/voy_tennis
HoN #001 Brady to win @ 1,84
HoN #002 Kontaveit-3 Martic @ 1,9
HoN #003 Rybakina -1,5 Martic @ 1,877
So the result of the raw subset was 4 units, ROI 27% and the result of posted picks was 0.8 units and also ROI 27%. These two metrics I will put in the title of the post when the week is over and added up. (This week you will see: raw:+4; posted:+0.8) Looks like week 8/20 was pretty good mostly due to Rybakina.

I know that this method has some flaws. I am aware that I can be accused of manipulations, especially at the beginning of the week when I work on a tight schedule and have to analyze many matches and I am often late with publishing the lists. But as I said before if I would cheat then mostly myself...For you guys posted picks are all it counts and they are/will be on time and verified by blogabet (probably there are some ways to manipulate twitter posts, but just don't know twitter that much and I am not aware of it)

HOT or NOT - week 9/20 (Doha, Acapulco) [RAW:-1; POSTED:+2,6]

Last week, the first after HoN comeback was quite OK. Later on I will add some recap to the previous post. But time flies and here we are already with some matches in Doha and Acapulco behind us... I don't like this rush on Monday (and Sunday evening) when I have to analyze both full draws of WTA and TT tournaments - it's a lot of matches and Sunday evening is not a convenient time.

Enough these complaints:) let's move on to my WTA hot or not lists for this week, precisely for Doha cos I give myself some more hours to analyze Acapulco's draw.

Hot list: Barty, Kenin, Martic, ÅšwiÄ…tek, Vekic, Mertens, Pavlyuchenkova, Bertens, Sabalenka,
*added (Acapulco): Potapova, Hibino, Rus
Not list: Hercog, Garcia, Strycova, Muchova, Sevastova
*added (Acapulco): Stephens (if QF)

On the hot list, there are some obvious names like Barty or Kenin - players who went deep on AO a few weeks ago, both in good form and have no problems playing on hard courts. Bertens is not hard court specialist maybe, although looking only at the last few years I would say she is a solid player on all surfaces, additionally she has a rather easy draw imo.
On the not list you can notice some players that are already out of the tournament and I can be accused of manipulating results... belive me if I would like to cheat then I will be cheating myself cos I use this method for making my own bets. Half of the first's round matches were played yesterday and I made a decision of putting Hercog and Garcia on "not list" back then. In any case, just look at the pick published yesterday on my twitter and blogabet. I run this HoN project mostly for myself, since I have very few followers (or any), I am having fun testing some concepts of mine but simultaneously I have some proofs from previous tests that this method can be effective. In the full form my lists will be hard to follow anyway, so for potential followers picks posted on twitter/blogabet are all that counts. And in case of these picks, there is no shadow of doubts that they are not on time etc.

OK, that is it for now. I hope in next weeks I will write more reasons why these players and no others ... GL. In the afternoon I will add some names regarding Acapulco.

RECAP
I have some mixetd feelings about this week. Overall it was quite weak for my hot list - there were some early exits that I wouldn't expect. Especially three matches: Mertens-Strycova, Bertens-Zheng and Mertens-Putintseva in which my favs won the first set and then fell apart. Thus the raw metrics is not satisfying - both lists produced 24 matches with a hit rate of 50%. On the other hand the posted picks (blogabet/twitter) went exceptionally good: 4-1 and 2,6 units of profit at 52% ROI.

HOT or NOT - week 8/20 (Dubai) [raw:+4; posted:+0.8]

It’s high time for great come back of “Hot or Not” project. A few first weeks of 2019 were brutal in many respects for me and among other projects I couldn’t find time for HoN. Additionally my WTA predictive model (in fact system of models) got complicated and adding
a new element produce many new relations and it takes more and more time to put all the pieces together in one cohesive whole.

Let’s quickly move on to the lists, because in a moment starts the second round in Dubai. As usually I am late with these lists, but I hope I will improve at this point this year... Hot or Not project is based on more intuitive approach comparing to the rest of my modeling work, I would say it’s more loose especially at the first stage where I start just with the impressions the players left me with in the last few weeks. Then I mix it up with other relevant information (injuries, shifts in coaching staff, private stuff, travelling schedule, etc) and in the end I apply some statistical layers on it to come up with my predictions.

So who should be hot (or not) this week. My list are as follow:
Hot list: Halep; Mertens ; Brady; Mugu; Kontaveit; Kenin; Rybakina; Pliskova
Not list: Svitolina, Sevastova,
Not list, if QF: Strycova, Martic

Comparing to the last year there is one novum this week (and I don’t exclude it will be other in forthcoming weeks) – a variation of “not” list, which should be read as: Strycova and Martic are problematic this week but not necessarily in the first rounds. I am willing to bet against them but only IF they reach quarterfinals.

How to use my lists ? For me HoN is an implementation of the concept of bets series (package of bets), I have always had an intuition that betting on series of matches can be more effective then betting on one particular match in which variance is higher. The last year’s try with GDGD project confirmed my guessing. For example if I pick Halep to my “hot list” I will bet on her a few consecutive bets, hopefully she will reach the final and will cover most of HDP along the way😊. Some may ask why not outright bets – well, I don’t like this kind of bets, handicaps on games give me more flexibility (eg. I can omit some matches) and lastly there are countless variations in which player can be “ATS-positive” (positive record against the spread) but never reach the final. And don’t forget the “not list” where I basically bet that given players will not cover HDP and probably will exit the tournament at early rounds. So personally I will record all the matches that picked players are involved in and I will check how they went against the spread. This should give me even more assurance that this method and the process behind works.

But I am aware that for potential followers this all-encompassing approach may be hard. At some points it can also be unclear, eg. when players from the lists play each other. In the upcoming weekly wrap-ups you will also see that some matches were excluded – it will come from avoiding some match-ups or avoiding collisions with my main predictive model. So for potential followers I came up with simple solutions – selected HoN predictions will be posted on my twitter account (@voy_tennis) and on blogabet. These picks will also be marked in the final table, in which you will be able to see that these picks arise form the lists and are a subset of all picks coming form HoN method.

HOT or NOT - week 39 (Wuhan, Tashkent) [+0,56]

This is the first post from a new series of "HOT or NOT" posts, which will be the continuation of GDGD series. In a separate post I will write why GDGD came out difficult in day-to-day reality (or rather week-to-week) and why it has evolved to the form of HoN.

This week as a part of Asian swing, there are two tournaments on hard courts - in Wuhan and Tashkent. The first one in China is a Premier category with quite an impressive line-up. I suspect some top players still search for some points to get to finals in Shenzen.

edit: 23.9.2019 13:45
Most of the 1st round's matches were already played, but this is just one of the advantages that the project HoN has over GDGD, that I don't need to rush in Sunday evening/night or Monday morning and I can post my list even on Tuesday, however the sooner the better (I will try but not always it's possible for me). HOT and NOT lists are one part of the concept which will give you a broader perspective but more important (I think) are particular picks that you will find on my blogabet account. And in terms of picks, there will be no excuses in the sense that only published pick counts and of course they must be published before the match (no other option on blogabet:). I think it will motivate me to post the list and publish the picks on time before the first round, but as I know this "Sunday/Monday situation" it's very likely that often there will be some picks on Sunday/Monday morning and then a few hours later I will publish the lists on the blog.
This week the lists are as follows:
HOT list:
Peterson
Martic
Kuznetsova
Pliskova
Kenin
Babos - I like how her game changed after signing a new coach. She played well in US Open and in Korea last week, ...significant progress comparing to the first half of the year. She should be one of the favorites in smaller tournaments like this one in Tashkent

NOT (really:) list:
Bertens - in general, I don't like lack of consistency she presents since Madrid. There is something wrong with her game. Some others "girls" say that they like to practice with Bertens because she can keep the ball in the court forever, meanwhile she hits 2-meters outs in some last matches.
Zidansek
Krunic
Voegele

This is it for now. Although it doesn't seem so, believe me, that there is some thought (and analysis) behind these picks. I hope there will be more descriptions in the following weeks but to be frank it's not a priority to me. Basically, I use a similar set of factors while analyzing players and matchups and I feel I would repeat myself by adding often similar descriptions, that a player is in better form, healthy or not, has better results on a particular surface and so on, so on ...

Week 39 Summary: This week was not bad for a start:) The lists were published September 23rd afternoon, so practically after the first round and first picks covered only the second round's matches. If someone would bet on all the matches of the players from the lists, there would be 15 picks overall which would give 3,85 units of profit. This result refers to handicaps only. If someone would also try to back the MoneyLine (I recommend odds less than @3) than it would account for an additional 14 bets which resulted in 0,56 units of profit. This is of course just a hypothetical situation - on this stage nobody would bet on that many unchecked picks, including me:) Coming down to earth, in reality during this week I posted five "HOTorNOT(HoN)" picks on my blogabet. With a little effort, if you dig through a bunch of my table tennis picks, you will find five WTA handicaps tagged as "Hon". They were 3-2 ATS (against the spread) and produced +0,56 units of profit. it's OK and in generall I will be happy with a profit of around 1 unit per week - in fact, it's quite a challenging goal.

2019 Mallorca - go deep/go down list & daily recaps [unfinished, sorry...]

As usual, I am behind (with time), but there is a lot of stuff on my mind on Mondays. Additionally, some qualifiers are not known yet, so you wait to get some more info...you wait ...but you can't wait to the end of qualifications because the first round already starts... it's irritating but it is what it is.
Last time I covered a tournament with my GDGD method was Lugano in Aprill... since then I have distinguished some interesting factor and it took me time to integrate it to my predicting models. I must say that for some time I have been a little bit overwhelmed by the crisscross data patterns and my thinking wasn't as clear as I wish, thus I stopped publishing GDGD post until I felt that I have straightened up my decision process to the degree that I am comfortable with it. So here I go again... my picks for 2019 Mallorca (on grass) are:

GO DEEP list: Riske, Bencic, Zheng S.

GO DOWN list: Badosa, Cornet

Recap after 2R: What a comeback! What a disaster....0-5 ATS and little hope for next rounds. This comeback was really unfortunate or maybe partially I have made some mistakes which I could have omitted. But it is easier to say afterward since the probability assessment changes after the event... I refer mainly to Riske's performance - what she did was probably tanking. She won a tournament in the Netherlands just before Mallorca and probably I should have predicted that she may be up to sth to save energy for Wimbledon since the grass courts are her favorite... if she has signed up for Eastbourne then I am even more sure that she underperformed in this first-round match with Badosa...The match was really strange to me, Riske was losing an advantage on several occasion and was not very engaged, for sure not so fresh like in the Netherlands a week before. So this way GDGD method scored two misses straight away for Badosa was also on the go-down list. *I haven't seen Sorribes with Cornet, but 06 16 on home soil where she played 2 decent matches in qualification and with Cornet who is not in best shape and grass is her least favorite surface..it's a really weird result for me. *Zheng played a decent match and I guess this was a fair miss :), but in Bencic's case lack of rhythm was very visible - much more than I expected and maybe I should have tried a lower handicap which is a good tactic when a player has not much game rhythm.
The first round was strange and that was completely confirmed by the second round matches because results came back to normal I would say. Cornet and Badosa, from the go-down list, lost their matches easily although Garcia lost her focus lost the 2set being 5-2 in the front (!!). There was still sth wrong with Bencic cos she lost 1set to Rogers also being 5-2 in front (5-2 >> 5-7 !!), but the American retired eventually. So there is only Benic left in the game and I have really mixed feelings about her. But since Anisimova doesn't look very confident on the grass I guess I will give Bencic a try in hope that she's gained some rhythm which was not there in first rounds.

Recap after QF: Benic finally got some rhythm and defeated (uncomfortable on grass I think) Anisimova 62 62. Next, she faces Kerber and I think it will be a too strong opponent for her in these circumstances so I will quit that game. If she wins with Kerber, which is doubtful, then maybe I will give her a chance in the final.

Recap after SF: Well, well, well... So it happened what was less probable in my opinion. Bencic returned from the dead after trailing 26 in the first set and somehow she defeated (I would say) unlucky Kerber. Why unlucky - cos she had like 5 break points and couldn't convert any of them, meanwhile Bencic had maybe two chances to break and took one of them. The match was very even, and as for me, Kerber had the advantage for most of the time but she lost. In the final Bencic meets Kenin and as I said in the previous recap I will give her a chance. Maybe although this was a quite unfortunate contest for GDGD method, I will be able to pick a winner again:) like in Budapest, Acapulco and Miami...

2019 Lugano - go deep/go down list & daily recaps [-0,7]

As always five minutes before midnight... but I had a tough weekend, so just the lists and then picks on blogabet, and maybe later I will write some preview...

GO DEEP list: Bencic, ÅšwiÄ…tek, Alexandorva
GO DOWN list: Kuznetsova, Cirstea, Minella

Recap after 1R: Terrible start and I guess this first round will be deciding for GDGD method during this tournament... Alexandorva lost to Kuza after tight three-setter and I am not going to risk to bet against Kuza in next rounds - she looked too sharp and she is to face Bacs in the next round, with whom Russian has comfortable 4-0 h2h, so I will quit that match.
This is not the first and last time when I will abandon a player from "go-down" list if she is through to the next round. I hope it is understandable because often that will be an underlying logic behind the "go-down" list - a player should go down in the first/second round, and if not than sth went wrong eg. she is in much better form than expected. Sometimes the player is planned to go down in the first round due to a particular match-up (negative record, others). In this particular case, Alexandrova was in good shape, had momentum and seemed to be a solid clay player, and Kuza was back from a long break and her form was very questionable, plus she is not 19 teen anymore:). But if she beat Alexandorva then all assumptions must be reconsidered - I hope it's obvious for you. A similar case is with Cirstea, who was to go down with in-form Barthel (who won 1set but then disintegrated...), but she won and in the R16 will face Hercog, with whom she had a nice record, and alike in Kuza case, I will quit that match. Bencic with Lottner... I must say it was a stunner of the month so far for me but must give her a credit to Lottner for that - a well-deserved win.
So after the first round, there is 2-4 ATS and only ÅšwiÄ…tek stays in play for me as I am not going to touch Cirstea and Kuznetsova in this tournament anymore.

and almost 2 moths later.... sorry for that again.
So as mentioned abova I quit Kuznetsova and Cirstea after the unfortunate first round, so in practice only ÅšwiÄ…tek was left to follow, and must say she did well, almost perfect until the final. She reached the final in which lost to Hercog in three-setter. On the route to the final she covered 4 spreads (including first round) so I can be satisfied with this pick.
Overall the GDGD method was 5-5 ATS and loss of -0,7 units in Lugano which is OK, considering a terrible first round.

2019 Charleston - go deep/go down list & daily recaps [+1,3]

As usual, not much time to write any previews... I have to figure out how to prepare some material in the weekends, regardless the full line-up is not available then. I am looking at my predictions below and I have realized that all 4 these players are considered as clay specialists, maybe Cornet not so much... So why Larsson and Errani sit on the go-down list? Mainly because they are in very questionable form right now and both have a difficult draw in the first round. I hope I will write more in the daily recaps. It's all for now, I guess I am much better at making analysis than writing previews... Check below for my 2019 Charleston picks:

GO DEEP list: Bertens, Cornet
GO DOWN list: Larsson, Errani

Recap after 2R: Most of the second round matches are yet ahead, but not from our list's perspective, cos Bertens already played her 2nd round match. Well, it's a perfect start (again?!), as both the "do-down" players didn't survive the first round and Bertens beat in-form Trevisan quite comfortably 62 61. Since Cornet withdrew with some injury, Bertens has become the only one player to follow - she will take on Petkovic/Sakkari next, and then it will be interesting to watch who can threaten her - Wozniacki in the quarter? or maybe Bencic in the bottom half...? Below a short summary after 2R, as mentioned there is 3-0 ATS so far:

Recap after R16 (final): Wow! Bertens lost to Sakkari, which ends her title defense in Charleston. IMO it was the biggest upset yesterday, especially that it didn't start that way - KiKi got the early lead 4-1 and then had 4 set-points in the first set's tie-break. She couldn't convert any of them, unlike Sakkari who took her first chance to wrap up the first set. Then it went even worse for Bertens... Sakkari was very solid from the baseline which irritated the Dutchwoman increasingly. Sakkari has now 3-3 record with Bertens, including 2-1 on clay which is remarkable - she definitely knows how to play with the Dutchwoman... That ends our campaign in Charleston with 3-1 ATS and +1,3 units of profit.

Matches (all these matches you can find on my blogabet, marked as "GDGD"):

1.04.2019 1R down Ostapenko-4,5 Larsson              *WIN
1.04.2019 1R down Puig-3 Errani                             *WIN
2.04 2019 2R deep Bertens-6 Trevisan                      *WIN

4.04.2019 R16 deep Bertens-5,5 Sakkari                   *MISS

2019 Miami - go deep/go down list & daily recaps [+3,3]

Only the lists for now, cos I don't have time as always... Later on I will add some preview. Here are my predictions:

GO DEEP list: Barty, Riske
GO DOWN list: Zheng S., Rybarikova

It's also awkward that some qualifications are still running, so only today evening full line-up will be known. Probably then I would add some additional players to the lists.

Recap after 2R: Almost after the 2nd round, because Riske hasn't played her second round match yet. Ehh...Rybarikova, Rybarikova... makes the story of these two days. I could say that she lost twice, first time almost :( and the second time for real, but she covered twice her spread which means a loss for us. Her first match with Vikhlyantseva was ridiculous - 1st set easily 6-1 for young Russian, then 5-3 in the 2nd set and Ryba was ready to pack her bags, but out of nowhere, Vikhlyantseva has lost 6 games in a row, then won 4 games in a row... and finally lost in 3rd set via tie-break. And in the 2nd round, Ryba lost to Goerges but only by 4 games as the spread was 5 games. Rest players according to plan, Barty and Riske won their matches both covering their spreads and Zheng went down smoothly with Siniakova. So after 5 matches, there is 3-2 ATS which is decent considering the rollercoaster featuring Rybarikova.
Recap after 3R: Two matches from the list: Riske lost to Hsieh in one of the last matches of the second round. It was strange to watch, Riske was even more surprised than me I guess. Both players are in shape and Riske should have known what she can expect form Hsieh since the met twice in the past and Riske won both encounters. She started slow and the forehand was just a disaster, I can hardly remember any point won from the FH side. She found some more rythm in the 2nd set but it was too late for in-shape Hsieh. I didn't see the match Barty-Stosur but the younger Aussie took it quite comfortably 60 63. So after full three rounds, there is 4-3 ATS, only Barty is still in the game and she meets with Bertens - it's should be a good matchup for her considering the current form and the H2H so I will give it a try.
Recap after R16: Barty had a four-game dip which cost her the first set but then she regrouped and took the control over the next two... In the next round she meets up with Kvitova and I will quit this match. Barty did her job already by covering spread in all three previous matches and enough is enough. She has a poor h2h record with Kvitova (0-4), both are in good shape and what I acknowledged in one of my previous posts the GDGD method happened to be more effective in early rounds rather than in further stages of tournaments. As for now, there is 5-3 ATS, which is already a decent result, and I still can't help but think about that first round match when Vikhlyantseva should had defeated Rybarikova and then there would be 6-1 ATS right now, which would be an amazing result. Anyway, I am skipping the Barty-Kvitova clash, and if she came through it then Kontaveit/Hsieh would be much more comfortable opponent.
Recap after QF: Apparently I was wrong when quitting Barty-Kvitova match...or wasn't I? Of course, it ended up 76 36 62, but Kvitova had the early edge 5-2 in the tie-break and then set points, so the encounter could easily clinch 76 63 in Kvitova's favor...So often it's hard to say if you were wrong or right. Moving on, now Barty will take on Kontaveit in the SF and although a negative h2h (0-1), this time I will give a try.
Recap after SF:Can't say much since I haven't seen that match - blame it on 4 yours rain delays ... Looks like Barty is in superb shape. Now she will face Pliskova in the final, and I must say I am surprised a little bit for Plisk had a really poor record with Halep, especially on hard courts. Something unexpected must have happend because Plisk won 10 out of the last 11 games in that tardy match. I am not sure about the final, Pliskova and Kvitova were on my back-up go-deep list, so I may say that the final features the clash between my two "go-deep" players and in such cases I usually like to stand back...but form this blog's perspective, Plisk is not on any list, plus Barty look really, really confident and consistent right now, plus handicap -1 or -1,5 is not that big, and plus:) I think Bart's game has been improving/changing a little bit, she uses more BH topsin instead of slice, and can mix up a game a little more than 2-3 years ago. I have mixed feelings but slightly in favor of Barty so I will give it a try again.
As you can see, GDGD method is 6-3 ATS in Miami right now, and after the final, it can be either 7-3 or 6-4, whichever of these results are fine with me.
Recap after the final: An incredible week for Barty, with the biggest achivement in her career. Luckly she was on go-deep list and she went really, really deep:). It's hard to predict the winner, even when you pick 2-3 palyers, and frankly it's not my intention but I succeed 3 times (Budapest, Acapluco, Miami) out of 9 tournaments I have coverd by GDGD method. Anyway...let's sum up Miami a little bit - despite the "Rybarikova case":), the results are very good: 7-3 ATS and +3,3 units of profit. Lets look at the final table once again.

2019 Indian Wells - go deep/go down list & daily recaps [-0,1]

I don't like to cover Slams or big tournaments with GDGD method. I am overwhelmed by the number of options...  But since the method was so successful in February I decided to give it a little more credit. As I remember from previous years the courts in Indian Wells are rather slow and the ball bounces a little higher, which can be a little bit tricky for some players. Conditions are a little bit clay alike or maybe this too bold statement:). I picked some players with respect to the recent form, but the situation is not obvious since some of them can be overheated a little bit like Brady, WangY., Bencic, Kenin, Golubic, Uytvanck...They have many matches under their belt in the last two weeks, maybe too many... On the other hand, there was a quite long break especially when considering that some girls didn't play during Middle East swing and later on in smaller tournaments in Budapest or Acapulco. So their form is a little bit mystery and maybe it would be wiser to wait for two rounds or something but this is not how the GDGD method works... Dipping into the unknown is inevitable:)
So here are my predictions:
(After the second look at the draw, I have made some changes on go-down list, I have crossed off McNally and added Brengle ..sorry for that)

GO DEEP list: Bertens, Pliskova, Halep
GO DOWN list: Mladenovic, Krunic, McNally, Brengle

Recap after 2R: There were quite a few upsets and strange results in Indian Wells so far, but my lists are holding up quite well. I am really surprised how it works in this year or maybe I should say how it works at all because I just started late in 2018 with this method covering just two tournaments last year. I didn't expect it would work so well in terms of betting results, but let's wait to draw any conclusions since about 2/3 of the season is in front of us. After two rounds all the players form down list are out of the tournament but they meet with very unstable opponents in the first round and they both, not on our side, covered the spread. Stosur was just horrible against Brengle, I haven't seen her smashing racquet on the ground for a long time (or at all). Fortunately, both went down in 2R, but Sevastova lost her focus and won by 5 games not covering the spread. Overall players from "down list" were 2-1-2 ATS. On the other hand, none of the players form the "up list" played in 1R cos they were seeded and in the 2R they ale covered spread in their matches. Bertens defeated Linette in straight sets 64 61, Halep patchy as always but delivered the win over Strycova 62 64, and Pliskova who couldn't find the rhythm in the first set but eventually won by safe margin 67 61 61. I like the matchups in the next round so I will give them a try and don't plan to quit any match in 3R
Recap after 3R: I am with my kid at home, so even not much time to write sth sensible. It was a good round for "the method"...again... I am still impressed how well it works, cos it looks easy but I have been doing WTA handicapping for a few years now and I know that it's nowhere near easy, so thus I am surprised. Halep is one of the most annoying players on the tour, at least for me - I usually feel that she could play better but somehow she doesn't want to. At some point in the first set, she was 1/9 at breakpoint conversion and her opponent 3/3. She was imo very inconsistent, losing focus in key moments and then breaking Kozlova easily a moment later. Bertens did the job but the -2 spread was very attractive and frankly speaking I didn't expect Konta to play that good. She served well, her forehand was a crispy and powerful weapon at times and she proofed that if everything clicks together then she has big game. The matchups for R16 present interesting and I think there are better-than-even chances so I don't plan to exclude any match... let's see what will happen. The method is 7-3 ATS for now so there is some surplus, which gives me comfort to try another round.
Recap after R16: A horrible round, 0-3 ATS and both Bertens and Halep are packing to Miami (probably). Pliskova won but only by 3 games. I saw a part of Halep's match and she looked disgusted by her own game (alike in 3R). She had a huge problem to hold the serve, at one point in the first set I saw a statistic that she was broken 4 times out of 4 attepts... This round was very weak for GDGD method, but overall there is still 7-6 ATS so not a tragedy. Yesterday it was 7-3 and I wrote about the surplus:), well ... today it's gone. There is only Pliskova in the game left and she meets red-hot Bencic in QF. I quess there is too much risk involed and I will quit that match. Let's see what will happend.
Recap after QF(final): Game over, the last player from the lists leaves the tournament. Bencic was too strong and this time my intuition was accurate to quit that match. As I said in the short preview of this tournament, I took Bencic into consideration, but I predicted that she can be a little overheated after winning Doha. It hasn't worked out and she has won 12 consecutive matches and still looks very sharp. She will be tough opponent for Kerber in the next match and then potentially in the final. Overall the GDGD method has performed quite OK, 7-6 ATS and -0,1 of profit is a neutral result. It's becoming clearer and clearer that it's much easier to predict only about two rounds ahead, and also the results show that - after covering 8 tournaments since 2018 October, I am 46-27 ATS in first two rounds and only 19-17 ATS in the further rounds.

2019 Acapulco - go deep/go down list & daily recaps [+1,5]

Ok. Here it goes my new GDGD list, and again it's about half an hour before first matches :)) This time we move to hard courts of Acapulco. Last year Tsurenko won the final against Vogele (!). In semifinals, we could also watch Peterson and Gavrilova. As usual, I analyzed the current player's form, the draw, condition preferences, health and other issues and some other factors. This time, considering how the last week was successful I decided to pick just two players for each list. So here are my predictions for this tournament:

GO DEEP list: Wang Y., Anisimova
GO DOWN list: Konta, Buzarnescu

Recap after 1R: This time the first round was not so kind (Budapest can't last forever :)). Especially the down list haven't worked out - both Konta and Buzarnescu won their matches and in style covering the spreads. Buzarnescu meets with Andreescu in the next round I think that she is born to hang here... but Konta got lucky a little bit, because in the other match Anisimova retired and Konta will meet with qualifier Flink and probably with Vekic or Mchale in the following round. I am not sure here... I worry that Konta can get too much momentum after two wins (Siegemund and potentially Flink) which can translate to higher spread coverage ratio than I expected. Thus I will omit Konta in the R16 with Flink and maybe even remove from the list after R16 - there is such a possibility, as I mentioned before the GDGD method is still young and I will introduce some improvements from time to time.
Recap after R16: There is the interesting/strange situation after R16... as I said I omitted Konta, who won relatively easy with Flink and there is a risk that she's gathered some momentum and I plan to omit her also in QF with Vekic. I think there is no use to continue bet against Konta. I thought that she will clash with Anisimova but the American retired in the first round. In the second match related to go-down list, as expected Buzarnescu went down with the Canadian prospect Andreescu. On the second leg, I mean go-deep list, there is also intrigue situation - Wang Y. advanced to R16 due to Puig retirement but surprisingly she will meet Haddad who eliminated number one seed Stephens(!). I haven't seen it coming and counted on the match with overestimated Stephens. I don't like this match-up with leftie Haddad so I decided to let this match go. So it looks like this tournament is over for me... or rather for GDGD method :)
Recap after QF: Ehh.. it turned out that quitting this round was not a good idea, but of course more data will be needed to state if quitting/omitting some matches is a good strategy or not. Last night definitely it was not :). Maybe Konta got some momentum but not enough for in-form Vekic and Wang Y. handled Haddad relatively easy, though the first set was very tight. So in sum, I omitted two wins yesterday :( WangY. is still in play and meets Vekic in SF, after short analysis I will give it a try, I think that chances to cover +4 spread are higher than 50% for her...
Recap after the final: Well, well, well ...for the second time in a row I picked the winner of the tournament, I mean by that, that one of the players from the go-deep list won the event. WangY. defeated both Vekic in SF and Kenin in F in three-setters. She was an underdog in these matches so naturally, she covered the spreads. I can't say much about these matches since I haven't watched it due to the difference in time zones. Picking winners in two tournaments in a row is a quite surprise to me, even more, because it was never my intention when designing this method. It's very unlikely to pick the winner so I prefer to focus on max three rounds ahead and try to predict the spread coverage in particular matches. What will happen later after QF stage is really hard to say, but it happened to go my way this time again... anyway all is recorded on blogabet, if you filter picks archive by stakes, then 2/10 represent GDGD method...(or rather it was recorded, since today morning anti-spam bot has closed my account on blogabet, probably because I put my email in the description. It is fuc... annoying but right now I am stuck with them).
Afterall, although (let's say) I picked the winner, this tournament was a little bit tricky for the GDGD method.. there were some unexpected retirements in first rounds and that confused me about the situation's development. Thus I quit some games at R16 and QF stage, as it turned out later this decision wasn't in my favor. Overall, the results are 4-2 ATS (OK form me), and 2-1 ATS among omitted matches, and +1,5 units flat, every result over 1 unit per tournament I take with satisfaction.

2019 Budapest - go deep/go down list & daily recaps [+7,8]

Just quick lists alone ...

Here are my predictions for this tournament:

GO DEEP list: Uytvanck, Parmentier, Alexandrova

GO DOWN list: Korpatch, Stollar, Larsson

Recap after 1R: Looks like no preview is needed :)  Of course I carry out my analysis to come up with these predictions but then to put it across... uff that's a different story. I guess I am better analyst than writer (so why I write this blog?!:) Anyway, I started telling that previews are not needed because I didn't write a preview to this one and there was almost perfect start. All girls from go-down list lost and didn't cover the spread. And from go-deep list, Alexandrova won by 5 gems margin (handi was -5,5) but she had 4-1 and a double break in the 3rd set, shame that she couldn't close it smoothly. So overall after 1R there is 5-1 ATS, hard to expect a better start...
Recap after R16: Wow!! A perfect round with three wins. Way above an average. This time Alexandrova didn't take a break in the middle of deciding set, Uytvanck had a close match with ÅšwiÄ…tek, who in fact looks impressive in some rallies and probably is a great prospect. Smitkova broke down emotionally at some point in the 2nd set and Parmentier took her chance to finish her off. 8-1 ATS after two rounds ..wow! I can't believe myself. Looking forward to quarterfinals:)
Recap after the final: Amazing!:) First time when I picked the winner since when I employ this method. In QF and SF we had two matches where girls form "deep list" played each other, so I omitted these games. In QF Uytvanck defeated Kozlova in three sets and then survived the clash with Alexandrova in SF. That one was really close. In the final, she came back from set down to defend the title. That was the most successful week for GDGD method so far and I don't think it will repeat soon. Everything just clicked perfectly in this one - 10-1 ATS and +7,8 units is crazy and probably impossible to be repeated.

2019 Doha - go deep/go down list & daily recaps [+0,2 ]

Looks like I am pretty much late again and I publish my GDGD list just before the tournament kicks off. Well... usually there is a lot of stuff going on during the weekend, and still, I feel a little bit awkward to predict a couple of matches ahead. It's just new to me and I definitely prefer to focus on analyzing and predicting one match at a time. But I will get used to ... Anyway, below are my predictions for Doha 2019:

GO DEEP list: Goerges, Pliskova, Kerber
GO DOWN list: Hercog, Ostapenko, CSN

Recap after R16: First of all I like the dynamic of this tournament, it's much shorter than AO I covered last time :) Two rounds and already QF is at sight. All the girls from "go down" list are already packing to leave Doha, but playing against Ostapenko turned out to be a bad investment. She is in poor form, but Buzarnesku even in worse and handi +4,5 with Svitolina was too big as Svito don't like to play with bum-bum players, and it ended up -4, of course :( When comes down to "go deep" list - Pliskova withdrew with viral illness, Goerges and Kerber won their matches and are 3-0 ATS :)
Recap after SF(final): Well, Kerber turned out to be too unstable, more than I thought before the tournament. She produced 0-2 ATS in QF and SF, she lost 1-6 first set with Strycova and it was her first lost set against Strycova on hard courts in 6 encounters. In SF I predicted that she probably won't make it but stayed consistent with GDGD list. This case showed that GDGD list method has some significant flaws since among my paid tips there was an opposite tip (Mertens+3) as you can see on my blogabet account. It may look strange and stupid but while generating regular paid tips I carry out full analysis, takes into account more factors and also the fact how the situation on the tournament is evolving, while when making GDGD prediction before the tournament I don't have the knowledge how the player is doing on further stages... Finally Doha ends 6-5 ATS and +0,2 units of profit... could have been better.

2019 Australian Open - go deep/go down list & daily recaps [+3]

I am late, so for now just raw predictions...:
{edit 15.1.19} At first I didn't plan to cover Slams, I mean in terms of this GDGD project. Slams are more complicated mainly due to the depth, the number of matches and so on. But then I thought I would like to cover at least two tournaments per month and I did just Sydney in January, thus this late at night decision. But of course I have made some research and my analysis thought there is still not much knowledge about players' real form. But other factors can be assessed and based on that I have made my predictions. So let's have some fun! As the tournament progress, I will paste the particular matches resulting from GDGD players' list and mark the outcome by a color :)

GO DEEP list: Sabalenka, Keys, Kerber
GO DOWN list: Ostapenko, Larsson, Peterson

16.01.19 daily recap: so far so good. Most of the first two rounds matches were played and all three players from a "down" list are out. Ostapenko in the first round and the Swedish contingent today. So overall the "down" list is 3-1 against the spread (ATS). All three players from the "deep" list are still in play and they performed well, 4-1 ATS. After two matches Kerber looks solid and confident, Sabalenka I think is saving the energy for further rounds, and Keys still has 2nd round match in front of her and then I will be able to say sth more, but she is a Slam-player who usually reach the second week even if her form is questionable before the tournament.
23.01.19 daily recap (final): Well, I am not very regular with these recaps ;) but for now I feel it's not the most important thing for this blog. My game ended at the round of 16 when both Kerber and Keys lost their matches. Collins ...I must say WOW !! After 2018 clay season I thought that she won't be a significant player outside home soil, but as she said in one of the interviews last year everything was too new to her... so who knows, maybe she will be the dark horse of 2019 season. Keys had many chances in Svitolina battle, but Keys is Keys and when it's IN then it's ok, but when it's not IN then ...
Overall it was very good tournament for the GDGD "method" - 9-4 ATS and 4 units of profit. It's hard to predict a winner of any tournament, especially Slam but +4 units are fine to sugar the pill.
